This painting, part of a larger body of work was inspired by an exhibition I attended in 2019, Embracing Canada Landscapes from Krieghoff to the Group of Seven, at the Vancouver Art Gallery in Canada. One painting, in particular, caught my attention, Maurice Cullen's, Logging in Winter. I studied it intensely. The artist captures a quiet moment of a crisp winter morning through the gestural application of paint, thick brush strokes, and soft pastel shades. I was inspired and set out to capture the joy and stillness it evoked within me through my process and language of abstract painting.
